Zemun is an urban settlement in the southeastern part of Srem, on the right bank of the Danube not far from the mouth of the Sava.
Territorially, historically, politically, culturally, economically and traffic-wise, it is connected to Belgrade, of which it has been a part since 1934. Zemun is one of the most important cultural centers in the history of Serbia, and even today it is an important cultural center, to the pride of all Zemun citizens.
According to the 2011 census, Zemun had 157,367 inhabitants (according to the 1991 census, there were 141,997 inhabitants, in 2002 there were 145,751 inhabitants).
The municipality of Zemun is located on the navigable Danube, near the airport and at the intersection of two important European corridors, the E-70 highway in the length of 20 km and the E-75 highway in the length of 18 km. The municipality of Zemun is covered by a network of 172 km of roads. The railway corridor passes through the territory of the municipality of Zemun, 18 km long, with two railway passenger stations Zemun Polje and Batajnica.
Citizens receive basic health care in the Health Center "Zemun", which includes 4 health stations, 6 clinics, and 3 branches. On the territory of the municipality, there are also 2 clinical hospital centers KBC "Bežanijska kosa" and KBC "Zemun". Special types of social protection are realized through the City Center for Social Work - Zemun Department, then through the activities of the Municipal Board of the Red Cross, the Gerontology Center, and the Home for the Physically Handicapped.
